Dogs & TV

Postby rtn4790 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:59 am

I was watching Petkeeping this morning with my Shih Tzu & Cocker Spaniel puppies, when Marc spoke about "Golden Retrievers" and brought his dogs in on camera, my Shih Tzu was watching it and began barking like crazy, I didn't think dogs were able to watch TV, I thought everything appears black & white to them. My cocker spaniel did not respond the same way, she was curious as to what the fuss was all about.

Can dogs see the same way us humans can?

Dogs can see TV-not quite like we do but they can see the images- how they react to it varies from dog to dog. Some dogs take a look at it and know that the object on TV is not real and others do not care-the picture fascinates them and they quickly learn that when they bark at the image then eventually it goes away-during the commercial break that is...I have a stack of photos from viewers whose dogs, cats and even birds watch my show all the time. Oddly enough-none of my pets ever watched me on TV-you would think that they would react at least to my voice coming out of the set but they seem to know that it is not real so go figure.
