I love Beverly Lewis books and read the series the Shunning,i also live 45 mins from Lancaster county and have Amish around me, the movie was good but you need to reseach your characters more the Pennsylvania Amish don't wear wedding bands, don't wear makeup, the ladies roll the front of their hair and the men have a bob cut and longer in the back, Beverly's book are always acurate you did'nt do her book justice

I have visited Lancaster County and the Amish. I realize the Amish don't wear makeup. However, if the cast doesn't wear any makeup at all, their faces would fade away under the lights necessary for filming. I think they tried to make the makeup appear to be natural but it is almost impossible to make the charaters appear to have on no makeup during filming.

As for the wedding rings and hairstyles, it does not bother me that they were not authentic in those areas. To me, those two things are insignificant to the story. And, I think the story was right on target.

So, I feel the opposite on what you have posted. The writing and directing was excellent and the cast portrayed the characters so beautifully that I think Beverly Lewis was honored by this presentation. I hope the Hallmark Channel does the last two books of this series.

I agree with the main poster .. I DO want to see real-life characters in movies. If they don't wear wedding bands, then they shouldn't in a movie, etc. My husband is retired military, and he can't watch movies where uniforms are not properly worn (stripes upside down, hats tipped in the wrong direction, etc.). I also find that I want true-to-life stories, otherwise, they are not believable. I also did not like the fake accents ... thought they were awful. Many times, I couldn't even understand them because they were so bad.
