Personally, I was highly disappointed in this movie. I thought the accents/acting was awful ... sorry to offend folks, but I have seen some really great Hallmark movies, but this one was awful. Very drawn out with nothing much going on ... never ever said where or who this boy Daniel was, what happened to him, how she knew him, etc. Then, she just hops a bus and leaves to NY??? C'mon ... I classify this as one of the worst I've seen on Hallmark ... sorry, too many negatives in this for me.
Also, if this boy "loved" her, he would've been watching over her some way, some how ... and helped her when she needed his help. Instead, they never talk or show him again. <YAWN> BORing ...

Unless I'm mistaken, the appearances of Daniel were dream sequences or sequences of inner thought. The character, Daniel, is presented as a young man in tension with his own community. Unless I'm mistaken, I thought the movie indicated that he had drowned. In any case, he was clearly the love of the girl's life rather than the relationship that had been arranged for her with the bishop.

I liked the movie, however, because I had read the book, I was able to fill in the lines of what happened. Obviously, the movie would have to be several hours long to cover everything that was in the book. If I had not read it, I'm sure I wouldn't have like it so well either. This movie was based on a book by Beverly Lewis, that actually has 2 more books following the storyline. Because I knew the rest of the story, having read the trilogy, the ending didn't seem that strange to me. If you haven't read the books, do yourself a favor - they are wonderful, and the movie will mean a lot more to you. I'm hoping there is a sequel made - following what happens to Katie when she does meet her birth mother.
